PROJECT DESCRIPTION

HerPath Initiative (Pitch Project): RYEH is proposing the HerPath program—an innovative, offline-friendly digital training model designed to equip refugee and displaced girls and young women with practical digital skills, entrepreneurship pathways, and access to income opportunities. The initiative responds to barriers such as low connectivity, limited access to devices, and exclusion from formal education systems by delivering flexible, community-based learning solutions. HerPath Institute focuses on enabling young women to learn, earn, and build sustainable livelihoods, while strengthening their participation in the digital economy.

Exploratory Research on Refugee Workers & Entrepreneurs – Dadaab & Kakuma, Kenya

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Social Commerce & E-Commerce Research: RYEH supported Caribou Digital (lead research partner in Kenya and Uganda) in conducting exploratory research on refugee workers and entrepreneurs engaged in social commerce and e-commerce. RYEH’s role focused on the Kenya component (Dadaab and Kakuma), facilitating field engagement, supporting data collection, and providing contextual insights. The study examined digital income pathways, barriers (connectivity, payments, logistics), and opportunities to strengthen refugee participation in the digital economy, contributing to evidence-based programming under the PROSPECTS initiative.

Making Aid Work Research – Dadaab & Urban Refugee Contexts (Kenya)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Making Aid Work (MAW) Research: RYEH contributed to the Making Aid Work for Displaced Women research initiative, supporting evidence generation on how humanitarian and development aid can be more effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of refugee and displaced women. Through community engagement, stakeholder consultations, and field insights, RYEH helped bridge research and practice—ensuring that lived experiences inform policy, programming, and funding approaches.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

DREEM (Displaced and Refugee Youth Enabling Environment Mechanism): RYEH participated as a pilot partner, supporting efforts to strengthen inclusive systems for refugee youth. The project focused on advancing youth leadership, promoting access to education and livelihoods, and contributing community insights to inform policy dialogue and inclusive programming across East Africa.

RYEH Digital Innovation Hub: Funded through the $100,000 UNHCR–Nansen Prize, this project is transforming the RYEH library into a fully equipped digital hub. Dadaab Book Drive: RYEH established a library with over 60,000 books during the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring continuity of learning for children and youth. The initiative supports education access by providing a conducive learning environment and essential reading materials.
